In the past few weeks I've gotten to know 4-PrO-DMT, and felt compelled to help chisel out this interesting and noteworthy cousin of psilocybin - there are a handful of reports on Reddit and Bluelight between 2019 up thru 2024 - and I wanted to add what bits I could to the discussion.

Addressing the "Is this a pro-drug for psilocybin & does it produce distinct effects?" question - for me, 4-PrO-DMT, magic mushrooms and 4-AcO-DMT all produce similar but *distinct* states. All three have me bearing witness to a complex, intelligent process / agenda. 4-PrO-DMT seems more detached - less beneficent than 4-AcO-DMT - but not less intelligent, aware or capable. Admittedly - until I am able to correctly identify these three substances predictably in a double-blind scenario, their perceived differences are my untested and biased opinion.

What is clear to me - after six trials (7mg, 12mg, 20mg, 25mg, 30mg, 60mg) - 4-PrO-DMT sits next to psilocybin and 4-AcO-DMT as significant, fascinating, noteworthy. Its psychedelic range / footprint is large. Clean and clear on the body. Equal parts fun, serious, contemplative. With higher doses, this chemical assumes a detached, marked authority over the ego - like 4-AcO-DMT or magic mushrooms - less warm earth teacher, more intrepid alien explorer. Mixture of sedation and stimulation that doesn't strain the system for hours like LSD. Dissociative characteristics - me watching my sitting body cascade into the couch, in the 3rd person, or fish-eye type wide-angle imagery. Large range of visuals - infinite neon fractal universes a la Magic Eye.. multi-color string-like 3D projections morphing off of real world objects.. organic planes of the universe "opening" like a mouth.

During my 60mg trip, I was visited by a series of entities. Snake-like, humanoid medusas would sweep in & encircle my arms / body. This would happen suddenly, with indistinguishable auditory communication like a metallic vocoder. During my peak (1.5 - 3 hrs), I would have large, neon, geometric objects such as pyramid or square grid lattices superimposed into my environment, such as onto my coffee table. I could move my head & body around them & they would remain static, scaling with other objects in the room - like an AR headset superimposing visuals on top of your existing environment - except there was a distinct **outside will** controlling these events. I was a witness, but not in control.

There were unsettling sequences where liquid and flesh-like matter spattered around my world, along with the physical sensation of a warm bursting sensation - never painful, but surprising and uncompromising. I got tense and afraid, as I could not really control the arrival or character of these visions.

The 60mg trip contained a particularly violent, disturbing series of images that involved black, alien tentacles or mouth parts. On a subsequent 28mg trip, I briefly had these images return - they sort of "ripped" thru a hole in the center of my vision from another, less hazardous sequences of images - in a very startling and unexpected way. That visual in particular felt hostile, menacing.

This chemical seems to be able to produce a visual render of my brain's separate internal processes, with little explanation - like an accidental glimpse. Problem-solving and deep introspection is very possible - but only as the trip schedule allows. In other words, there were times where I could steer the ship - and other times where I had to hand off control. I respected its authority most of the time - except when "it" made random, chaotic decisions with no apparent moral or thematic structure. I was then left to hope "it" would go easy on me.

To contrast chemicals: 4-AcO-MET brought significant visuals , but none of 4-PrO-DMT's purpose or gravity. LSD brought a significant and powerful lens to bear - with much overlap in "otherworldly", profundity and strangeness - but it didn't carry the same personality or agenda. Magic mushrooms (4-HO-DMT) had a fleeting, curious, earthly personality.. 4-AcO-DMT had an all-encompassing universe-occupying personality.. and 4-PrO-DMT had an equally serious but colder, semi-synthetic, less empathetic, hugely impressive & remarkable spirit. All three of the 4-substituted DMT variants could be called siblings of the same family, but 4-PrO-DMT left the house first & isn't as concerned with keeping you safe.
